I think I'm a bit confused - who are these folks doing the confusing? Are they weird outliers like Doug Wilson, or fading and grasping old guard like John MacArthur? Or is it some sort of institution you are thinking about? I'm my experience, plenty of evangelicals are doing great clarifying work and not at all interrupted by some sort of centripetal force of evangelicalism. But maybe your point is that is what mainliners said in 1975?
For instance, 2 weeks ago I went to the Acts29 conference. I suppose that institution that would fit in Big Eva? There were encouraging and interesting things about it. It certainly doesn't have the influence it has 10 years ago. But most of the speakers and the content worked to clarify the exact things that you say are being confused by Big Eva. For instance, Sam Allbery gave a fantastic talk on sexuality and loving neighbor.
I think you are very confused about Sam Allbery's ministry. That was just an example I gave of life giving evangelical public ministry. No idea how it could be considered watered down. I was just wondering if the author had any examples of what he considers to be the effects of big Eva. I just don't see a lot of evidence for what he is talking about, or at least I can't think of any examples. I mentioned McArthur because he seems to be doubling down on a lot of weird takes recently.
This parallel to Minas Morgul is on par for our times. Former kings of men now in league with the dark lord.
We will need our own fellowship as those in Middle Earth. Our list of allies grows thin, though.
Looking forward to reading more.
I look forward to your future posts on this topic. We’re seeing and watching.
I pray for the Lord’s guidance on what small role He has for me in these times.
Went to tag you on Twitter and it says you don’t exist. Keep up the good work.
Hitting the nail on the head, and demolishing the nail.
Good point. They don’t care if you actually agree with them on these issues as long as you’re confused, as long as you’re uncertain.
Good stuff man. Standing alongside you on the truth of God's Word. Great analysis, and thanks for including Middle-Earth. Classic.

To put down John MacArthur and exalt Sam Allbery explains your confusion.
Could you enlighten me? Can't follow.
The article is about how traditional evangelicalism has been corrupted and no longer teaches and preaches the true gospel.
JMac preaches a sound biblical gospel, uncorrupted, not like those who tolerate and embrace sin like Sam Allbery.
Unless I am mistaken, you seem to denigrate JMac and speak well of Sam which is contrary to the jist of the article.

Sam does not, contrary to scripture, call homosexuals to repent. JMac does.
That’s the difference between sound evangelicalism (JMac) and the new woke infested “evangelism” Sam is advocating.
The effects of big Eva are all around us as in the social gospel, accepting crt and woman pastors etc..
