Introduction
Yesterday, as I read about recent developments like the United Methodists repealing their ban on LGBTQ+ clergy and the U.S. House of Representatives redefining antisemitism that would extend as far as reading certain passages of Scripture that show the complicity of Jewish rulers in the death of Jesus, it's clear that the shift I anticipated back in 2020 is unfolding before us. I dubbed this transformation the New Mainline then, a term I still find fitting.
In June 2020, I outlined this emerging trend:
“In the past couple of decades or so, we had what was called the New Calvinism movement.
In the next couple of decades or so, I forsee we will have what could be referred to as the New Mainline movement.
CRT/Intersectionality and Social Gospel/Liberation Theology have become so influential so quickly, especially within Big Eva that it will be almost impossible for it to not have ripple effects for some time to come.”
Later, in November 2020, amid the election period, I emphasized:
“If you're a Traditional Christian, it's time to come out of Evangelicalism. Evangelicalism is as socially progressive as Liberal Mainliners (I told you at the beginning of 2020 there was a New Mainline coming in Evangelicalism — Some will remember).
If you're a Traditional Christian it's time to band together with other like-minded Traditional Christians and build something that will be able to weather the coming storm.”
Following this, C.R. Wiley also touched on this shift, asking:
“Is evangelicalism the new mainline?”
The answer, indeed, appears to be yes. However, it's more than just a shift; it's a sinister transformation. Evangelicalism, particularly Big Eva, has become Minas Morgul.
Big Eva is Minas Morgul
In the Lord of the Rings, the Nazgûl—earthly kings corrupted by the rings of power, seized Minas Ithil. After a long grinding campaign, Minas Ithil became known as Minas Morgul—the Tower of Dark Sorcery. What was once a glorious watch tower for the Gondorian capital city of Osgiliath became an outpost of the Dark Magic.
The same thing has happened in the West. Evangelicalism has become Minas Morgul. Its once glorious ivory tower has been seized by Nazgûl-like figures who have been corrupted by power and the Dark Magic. Now they use the corpse of what once was to perpetuate their mythic new creation and its reality-bending story to shape things into their image. In other words:
They want you to be confused about gender roles and gendered piety.
They want you to be confused about the distinction between Creator and creation.
They want you to be confused about gender and the priesthood.
They want you to be confused about ethnicity and wokeness.
They want you to be confused about tolerating evil in the name of love and vanquishing it.
They want you to be confused about the relationship between church and state.
When confusion reigns over these critical matters, reality itself becomes twisted and distorted, akin to falling under a spell. Essential distinctions, ordained by God, begin to erode, resulting in a breakdown of meaning and order. It's crucial to understand that this breakdown highlights the contrast between order and chaos: Order is defined by differentiation and inherent meaning, while chaos stems from the absence of differentiation.
The Dragon plays a pivotal role in facilitating this breakdown. From the beginning, his purpose has been to obliterate these distinctions, striving to unify all things into one. This echoes the ancient temptation, "ye shall be as gods."
A Traditional-Futurist Vision
Given this perspective, here's my take: Reclaiming Minas Morgul isn't feasible at the moment, not until the Nazgûl are dealt with first and it’s going to take a lot more to do that than expose podcasts and Twitter (X) wars.
Moreover, there's no "RETVRN." While the notion of reverting to traditional ways is appealing and needed amid modernity’s craziness, retreating to the Shire won't shield us from its eventual scourging.
We stand on the verge of a significant transition. We’re nearing a deep breath before the plunge. The only viable course of action is to unite the Men of the West and our allies to forge counterforces and build strongholds against these dark influences.
What we truly need is a compelling and positive vision for the future. This vision is essential to galvanize men, hobbits, dwarves, and elves alike in our unified stand against the looming threat of the dragon. It must draw inspiration from our rich ancient past while propelling us confidently into the future—a vision that is both Traditionalist and Futurist.
Furthermore, our focus must be on cultivating a thriving culture rather than solely resisting negative influences or defining ourselves by opposition. We cannot build enduring foundations while constantly on the defensive or engaged in tearing things down. I am thinking about this a lot at the moment, and plan to write more about it soon. I look forward to sharing more.
This parallel to Minas Morgul is on par for our times. Former kings of men now in league with the dark lord.
We will need our own fellowship as those in Middle Earth. Our list of allies grows thin, though.
Looking forward to reading more.
I look forward to your future posts on this topic. We’re seeing and watching.
I pray for the Lord’s guidance on what small role He has for me in these times.
