Hey everyone!
I just wanted to announce to you all first that my book Re-enchanting Time: A Primer On How the Lordship of Christ Changes Timekeeping is now available for pre-order! It drops July 4th (Fitting for a book on timekeeping). You can pre-order it now on Kindle and in paperback in the next 72 hours!
The release of the book is the culmination of three years’ worth of work on the topic of how Christ’s lordship touches on timekeeping. To say that I’m excited for its release is an understatement. I think it’s really going to help people think about this topic in a way that is in-line with the Great Tradition of Christendom and help answer a lot of questions folks may have.
So, what’s this book about?
Well, to put it as simply as I can, the book is about timekeeping in light of Christ’s lordship. It makes the case that Christ is the lord of time, and that has profound implications for how we celebrate holidays (holy days). The book traces the theme of time-keeping from creation all the way to Christ and the Church, and makes the case that the church, because it is united to the Lord of Time, has the authority to declare holy days and that this is consistent with the Bible. This obviously gets into topics like the church calendar and if that’s a legitimate enterprise.
So, who will enjoy this book?
I think any Bible nerd will enjoy this book. But, there are some people who will enjoy it and get more out of it than others.
If you’re someone who has ever wondered if it’s legitimate for the church to declare holy days, this book is for you. If you’ve ever wondered if keeping the Old Covenant feasts and festivals is still required, this book is for you. If you’re into Dr. Michael Heiser’s work on Divine Council Theology and James B. Jordan’s work on Symbolism, this book is for you. If you’re a Regulative Principle of Worship person who thinks we should only celebrate the Lord’s Day, this book is for you. If you’ve been curious if Halloween is Pagan and if you and your family should celebrate it, this book is for you. If you’ve ever wondered how much Christ’s lordship touches on, this book is for you.
I think this book is also relevant to the conversations on Christian Nationalism happening. People have asked the question “what will laws look like in a country that is Christian?” But no one has asked “what will time-keeping look like in a country that is Christian?” This book at least gives one proposal.
With the completion of this book, there are so many people who run through my mind. There are just way too many people to thank right now, so I’ll just say it this way:
Thanks so much to everyone who has made this possible. To my family who gave me the time to complete it. To those who beta-read it. To those who suggested edits. To those who gave blurbs and reviews. To those who motivated me when I wondered if releasing it was a lost cause.
The release of this book isn’t just a win for me. It’s a win for everyone involved. It’s our win, and soon, you’ll be able to read it for yourself and hold it in your hands. Please make sure to pre-order it! Thanks again!
Just pre-ordered the paperback version!
