Tell Me Strange Things
A New Christian Podcast that Dives into the Paranormal and Strangeness of Place
“Tell me strange things.” — Montague Summers
I’m thrilled to announce the launch of a new podcast with my friend and co-pastor
, titled Tell Me Strange Things. This podcast will dive into the strangeness of place. In the first season, we’re exploring the peculiarities of West Virginia and Appalachia. Here’s what you can expect in season one:
Mythic Appalachia: In episode one, we'll delve into the creation of the Appalachian Mountains, exploring their geological history and the myths that surround them. This blend of fact and folklore helps us understand why Appalachia is not only wild and wonderful, but also weird and wonderful.
The Flatwoods Monster: In episode two, we examine what is known as West Virginia's first case of high strangeness—the Flatwoods Monster. We’ll uncover what makes Flatwoods a prime location for these extraordinary events recorded by locals.
The Mothman Prophecies: In episode three, we investigate West Virginia’s most famous high strangeness case—the infamous Mothman. We'll explore what we know about Point Pleasant and why it was the epicenter for the events chronicled in John Keel's The Mothman Prophecies.
The Specter of Logan County: In episode four, we explore the haunting tale of Mamie Thurman, one of West Virginia’s most famous specters. We’ll examine her tragic life and brutal death, and why Logan County remains a prime location for these eerie events.
The Ogham Enigma in Appalachia: In episode five, we investigate mysterious petroglyphs found in Boone, Mingo, and Wyoming Counties. We’ll delve into theories suggesting they were left by Irish navigator monks, adding an ancient layer to Appalachia's mystique.
The Mystery of the Kanawha County Madonna: In the season finale, episode six, we explore a mysterious Madonna statue found in the cliffs of Kanawha County. We’ll uncover potential connections to giant ruins on the Kanawha/Fayette County lines and the east-facing burials found there.
Here’s what else you can expect from the podcast:
Monthly Episodes: We will release episodes on a monthly basis. Since we already have season one mapped out, we are beginning with half a year’s worth of content.
Episodes Released in Seasons: We will release podcasts in seasons, which gives us a break because we’re both bi-vocational pastors and family men with large and growing families. This makes it sustainable for us.
Seasonal Diversity: Each season will immerse you in a different locale. We'll begin our journey in West Virginia, exploring its unique mysteries. From there, we'll venture to new places in subsequent seasons, ensuring our content remains focused and deeply engaging, rather than too broad and shallow.
Balanced, Pastoral Conversations: In this podcast, you’re getting two pastors diving into these fascinating topics. While we’ll certainly aim for top-notch quality and production, you can expect balanced, seasoned, pastoral perspectives rather than unhinged takes designed purely for entertainment.
Stay tuned for social media pages and release dates. When we release it, it will be available on all major podcasting platforms. For those who support us financially (details to come—don’t do that here), you’ll get the whole season up front to binge. And yes, there will be merch when we launch!
I’m excited to return to discussing these fascinating topics. Many have found our church through past work on similar subjects, and I regularly receive requests for insights. I have several guest appearances on podcasts coming up to talk about these things. It seems God has placed me here to help with these matters, and I’ll be faithful to this calling until He gives me something else to do.
Until then, tell me strange things.
